FS#271 - Export bug list and comments to spreadsheet

Often project managers want a complete overview of all active bugs and items in the project. Much of this data is often forwarded to outside clients or upper management that are unable to directly access the bugtracker.

Taking this data and manually placing it into a spreadsheet is quite time-consuming.

I believe it would be a valuable ability for FlySpray to offer an 'export' (and later, an 'import') to/from external formats. The project could output to a standard format like CSV or even a more advanced format such as OpenOffice Calc or Excel file.

Have you tried, in Excel 2003, Data, Import External Data, New Web Query.

Then point Excel at the flyspray query page you desire ... it’s quite impressive. The bug listing on Flyspray only shows the task title so if you need any more info then maybe a custom ‘detailed’ bug listing page would help.

Anyway my point is with Excel 2003 you don’t necessarily need to export to CSV first .... (enough praise for MS, I feel unclean :)

I will never support proprietory formats like MS Excel (although others are welcome to do it), but I’m not against CSV.

I agree with alistair here. Using Excel’s web query sounds like a good way to achieve what you want. The upcoming Reports functionality will be able to generate a variety of pages for you to import with Excel’s web query.
