FS#536 - Task Detail Templates
Each project should allow a project manager to specify a default details template. For every new task that is opened, this template would show in the Details textbox. This would serve to remind the user to fill in this information for every task entered, as well as to provide a pseudo-field addition functionality to the admin. Since the details are searchable, this would provide most the most-needed functionality that a new field would provide, but not involve hacking the code.A default details template would look something like this:
–cut– Date/time error occurred:
Case Number:
Region:
Callback Number:
Detailed description of the problem:
–cut–
This would be especially useful in business environments, where there are business rules to be met, or if there are peculiarities in the system that the current project is devoted to.

I agree with Mac's assessment about
FS#218
being a better idea.

Patch to include this functionality in current SVN
FWIW, I think this need could better be met by
FS#218, so you can add new fields that you want people to fill out. It would allow the new fields to be searchable, sortable, and would let them be something more tightly controlled than plain text, like a new dropdown field or something.
