Some project and user settings should be able to set back to its default or 'auto' option.

• flyspray or project wide task list length, currently hard coded to 250
• user tasks_perpage setting
• user notifytype
• user timezone
• user language (system/project and auto (browser detection) selectable)
• ...

The Flyspray Manual ( http://www.flyspray.org/manual/ ) does not even hint of it, and as long as i am not logged in there's no indication anywhere in the interface that i would eventually get to do it after i manage to log-in.

In fact, i've come here to learn how to use your software, considering the fact that the site where it was deployed did not provide much help. And after i logged in into that site ( http://www.uzbl.org/bugs/ ) i still don't see any "add new task" option. That's IMO a discover-ability fail, and it originates in your own design: disabled features should not be hidden, lest users think you didn't bother to code such features. Also, you say i shouldn't report bugs against versions earlier than 0.9.9.7, but how do i know which version of Flyspray are they using?

This could be done by a textarea field (like comment text or task description) on the myprofile page and stored in a new field (of type text for instance) in the user table.

This allows the user to introduce himself to the other users.

Should be restrictive, for instance only simple text allowed, no html or tags.

The root of this is found in scripts/index.php in function tpl_draw_cell():

We live in a world now, where the view port ranges from 320 pixel width mobile screens up to 4k+ wide tv screens, the amount of columns is configurable from minimal to all available fields of a task. We currently let the browser automatic decide how wide he renders each column depending on table content and available window size.

Well, that ellipsis problem can be handled at different levels:

• motivate the task creators to use short task summary if possible (e.g. show a hint/tooltip when typing the summary gets over a limit, in our case the hardcoded limit is 55. ). Short task topic/summaries are easier to read/scan for the users.
• replace the hard ellipsis by a pure css solution, that adapts to users browserwindow size/space in in the columns for summary
• drop the ellipsis thing complete, task summary always shown full length, table rows adapt in height automatically.

Possible CSS solution:

• text-overflow now works in all big browsers. For instance see http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2108740/how-do-i-indicate-long-text-into-a-smaller-fixed-column-with-css
• Combined with :hover on the shortened summary the full summary can be shown without the list table starting to flicker/resize.

Currently the task list columns are used, which are choosed by admin or project manager for the task list view.

On some forms, when the user presses the reload button of this browser, the POST submit can be resubmitted.

Browsers can warn about this (Chromium, Firefox, Konqueror tested and they show a warning dialog) before executing the second POST.
But people on Flyspray mailing list wrote they experienced double comments.

Simple solution is just HTTP GET redirects after a successful POST. (HTTP 303 or HTTP 302)
But maybe there is a better method than a second roundtrip always needed?

Success, Error, or Warn-messages to the user are stored in the $_SESSION variable for displaying on the second GET request.
But I think that this is a bit ... mmh... not perfect.

For example, I would like to have in the direct response at which position in a form an input error is, not just the message bar in the top center as it is currently that just dissappear after a few seconds.

Also take care the browser back button still works as expected for the user.

In the comments list of a given task, is it possible that the comments appear from the newest one to the oldest ones, and not as it is now, with the new ones coming at the end of the list? This is because I deal with long comments list for a given task, and it is becoming difficult to reach the last one, that is, the newest comment, because the order in the comments is on the top, the older ones. Quick anwsers:

1. Users can use ‘End’-key and ‘Pos1’-key on their keyboard to scroll to bottom and top of page. (lame anwser I know)
2. Another quick anwser is to just reverse the comments array in the appropriate template themes/CleanFS/templates/details.tabs.comments.tpl :

But the real problem I think is that the details page (and others too..) is not optimized for todays wide screens (landscape views). Laptops have FullHD or higher but the Flyspray users still have to scroll to get an overview of a task.

And for narrows views too (mobile phones, tablet portrait view)

The attached screenshot shows moving the task details tabs beside their task description if the display width is over 1200 css pixel. (and the reversed comments too ). Done with pure css media query:

(Has still some problems with current 1.0-rc1 when the project selector wraps. Also tab labels wrap if not enough width available and tab content do not adapt.)

What do you think? How should the details page look on different display sizes? How can it improve the workflow of the user?

When viewing a project via the tasklist, there are a series of checkboxes available. If a user in a group with “modify own tasks” checks a box on a ticket - no matter who actually owns it - they are given a list of options to change it with.

This should not happen. The checkboxes should only be available from the tasklist if the user can actually edit the tickets they’d be next to.

In Admins Toolbox (Project preferences) i choose language de. The file exists in folder lang. But only english is shown. the same for french and so on. No really changes.

Geshi 1.0.8.17 from https://github.com/easybook/geshi is quite slow at the current integration of Flyspray v1.0-rc3 on the first run. (But any further read uses the cache.)

But it produces garbled output for xml code highlighting:

The table tag is stripped away instead of converting the tag for output inside code/pre tags (by converting the < and > chars). Maybe just a configuration issue?

It would be great to be able to configure a slack webhook that would post to a channel any task creation/deletion/modification.

I was wondering: is there a standard URL for “My tasks”? I have an internal website and I would like to create a menu with a few submenus (Add task and My tasks) that link to FlySpray. However if I place the URL for My Tasks (being logged in with my user account), and copy this link to the menu, all others that click the submenu My Tasks, are seeing the tasks that where opened by me or where I am assigned, not that user that is connected on Flyspray with his account on his PC.

So that’s why I am asking for a generic URL of My Tasks, so I can place it on this middle-site?

It would be great if the Admin Toolbox had an attachments section with an on/off switch, a max size setting, and it would print out all the reasons why it can’t set it to your desired value.

This would help in situations like  FS#2458 , it would be more clear if there is a setting to turn on/off attachments instead of turning them on and off by setting the rights if the attachments folder.

This way if the attachments setting is On, the GUI could also print an error “Attachments folder must be writable” when it detects that the writable attribute does not match the desired setting.

(Working on a network monitoring system that really needs a ticketing system, saw this and since I speak PHP, thought it would be a good place to start... I just installed and am sharing my notes, do with them what you will!)

the old php mysql extension is long ago reached its demise, why bother supporting it?

I also see in the database connector that your supporting MySQL/PDO - why not settle on that? If the queries aren’t MySQL specific, it becomes easier to support other DB’s, etc.

why not store all the user preferences in preferences or user_prefernces? Then users can just be simple username, email, password?

Save public files inside public or public_html directories, and non-public files outside of those directories;

setup logic

This goes onto another question/point - why are you deleting files from the vendor directory? It happens during composer install, and again after installation? Those files will just get put back if the user ever runs composer install again...

I get that your project is public and you want people visiting this site to see what issues you’re working on, but most people probably don’t want their bugs list open to the public;

Can this be protected/private by default?

Hi, in order for us to push our name (rather than flyspray) on emails, notifications, and GUI we had to edit the language file to replace the text “flyspray” with our install site name. That way notifications come from our company name rather than flyspray.

It would be nice if you could take the site name variable and add it to the language files in all keys that face the public user and all notifications. This would not only prevent editing of the lang file but also make setup alot faster.

Steps done to create the problem:
Access /index.php?do=admin&area=checks with a MySQL Version >= 5.5.3

Expected behavior:
Flyspray tests for character set and displays »Your mysql supports full utf-8 since 5.5.3. You are using x.x.x and flyspray tables could be upgraded.« when database schema or one table isn’t set to utf8mb4 character set.

Experienced behavior:
Flyspray always shows this note, even though character set is correct.

As far as I can tell from the source, a query gets executed to the database (and if I do that manually the result is “utf8mb4, utf8mb4_unicode_ci” for my database), but the result doesn’t get checket, the note is always shown (line 123)

Some translation keywords of Flyspray are used at more than one code location.

To help translators doing the correct translations, it would help to show in what context a translation keyword is used.
Especially when a keyword is used more than once.

As we have our own translation helper integrated into Flyspray, we could show a ‘translation keyword usage counter’ there and maybe show on request in which file
a translation keyword is used.

It would also help to identify ‘abandoned’ translation keywords that are not used anymore by Flyspray source.

Also it would help to identify when a translation is used at more than one location with maybe different context.

I think we can use a regular expression and scan the whole Flyspray source for that.
(and maybe database entries if there are places that have translation keywords stored - I don’t think so, but better check that too first than forget that case)

The regular expression should match that examples case insensitive for the translation keyword report:
