Flyspray - The bug killer!

So, the new website is now online, the codestyle part is empty and I think we need to speak about them...

I can happily reformat the whole project once we have decided the whole thing. Don't forget, too strict code style leads to code style not being respected, so crap like max line length should be avoided. I personnaly don't know anybody coding from their mobile phones. I sometimes do check some code on it, but long lines never disturbed me as long as the line is not 5k chars long.

I think we should go for a standard one.

Things like:

- Do use brackets even if single lined condition
- Variable names have spaces replaced by the next words first letter in capital, start with a lower case
- Same goes for functions
- Etc etc. Pretty much of PSR-1 maybe 2

What I don't understand is the use of spaces, and I'd be for tabs instead of 4 spaces (some files use 2 spaces, some 3...). Most of the dev tools are by default set to use tabs and not spaces. And be seeing the code now we see that it clearly. So i'd be for reformatting into tabs, the whole, and same time fixing the broken identation in every files.

I could write it down for the website

As discussed with the team some time ago, a consolidation of places where issues are discussed is wanted.

One of the results was, that we do not want people post issues to github.com Issues and instead use our own bugs.flyspray.org
and to prefer "to eat our own dogfood" and a have central place to handle tasks.

As a result we tried to reduce the open issueas on github.com. I was in the process of moving 2 of still 7 open issues there to bugs.flyspray.org when suddenly the Issues on github.com were closed. Now the last 5 issues there are lost at the moment for me and the audience, which where mostly informations to interested users, not bugs.

I think just closing it without an easy accessible alternative is not the best solution.

At least we should wait until the oauth2 authentication for github users should be implemented and setup on bugs.flyspray.org , so people browsing github.com, finding Flyspray project just can
"Login with github"-feature on bugs.flyspray.org.

The blocker to do this: Currently there is missing an option to "connect" an oauth "Login with github"- Login with an existend flyspray userlogin.

So that one userid in flyspray can:

• login with username and password
• login with one or more of his social accounts (github, facebook, microsoft, g+) if they are enabled (would it restrict to github.com accounts for bugs.flyspray.org)

We don't close the tasks until the release is "made", that is we let them under "Requires Testing" with 100% complete. When the release/testing cycle is finished, somebody has to go task by task, and start closing them... it's a PITA ;)
It would be nice to have to option to select all the tasks you want to close, and that the "popup" when you enter the reason/etc, applied to all the tasks I selected...

I recall reading something about this in the past, but haven't found it; and if this is implemented, I haven't seen a way to do it in 099beta1

My workplace is piloting Flyspray for an internal project and one feature that my boss was asking about was the ability to clone tasks and projects.

We have reoccurring simultaneous projects that contain a large number of testing tasks, and tasks dependent on other tasks, which makes starting up a new project very tedious. If it was possible to clone the contents of a task, or an entire project, we could create template tasks/projects that would really speed up the workflow.

There is a request for cloning a project on Flyspray mailing list:

Would be a very welcome features to have Project Templates for repetitive workflow. Any idea if its in the pipeline?

Well, not yet.

The question is, how exactly you want that project clone.

Do you want just a rough copy of the project table entry?
Thats quite easy and can even be done without programming or writing a line of SQL just by using PHPMyAdmin (or similiar Tools for PostgreSQL) and copy a row of the project table for example.
See yellow marked project table on the right of the attached dbschema screenshot.

The other extreme is copying every project depending list table entries to new ones.
This sure requires some programming, but not too hard to add this to Flyspray. (all yellow marked tables in the attached dbschema screenshot.

I attach a rough form mockup how could this could look like.

With all informations on flyspray, it's possible to generate a gantt chart.

I was wondering (again ) if the following scenario is possible for this bug tracking solution:

Our company uses this bug tracker mainly for helpdesk issues. However, our main users (except IT department) don’t seem to easily understand how to change the status of a ticket, they aren’t interested in doing that also.

So I would like to know if there is a way that we can develop some automatisation in changing the status automatically after customer replies to a message.

Let’s see the following scenario:

1. user A posts a new task
2. user B assigns himself (or other) to that specific task - the status automatically is changed to Assigned
3. user B replies to task by adding a comment - as a result of adding the new comment the task status should change automatically to Waiting for customer - without the need that user B to change the status
4. user A checks the comment from user B and decides to comment back to him. After pressing the Add comment button, the status should change automatically to Waiting for assignee

If the task is needed to have another status, the users can change them manually, but the automated part should be the waiting for customer and assignee.

On a basic algorithm it shouldn’t be hard (if user is logged in and is task owner, then after comment, task detail - status changing to id 4-5 from task-statuses table on mysql; if user is logged in and assigned to task, after adding comment change status 4-5 from task-statuses table).

I saw this thing on an otrs platform and it is quite ok for a simple user like ours.

Is there any way that we can personalise the flyspray in this way?

If yes, please give us an elaborate answer with what I should do for this to work.

Someone should go through all the changes from 1.0.0 and figure out which features should be ported to 1.0 devel and open tickets for them, and/or open tickets for the items that should be done in 2.0

Flyspray does not recover the time set in php.ini. On display, the system has two hour delay.

The issue with many servers now and the reason that recaptcha does not work is because it requires servers to enable allow_url_fopen which is a huge security risk. That is why you get the warning message when you try to run recaptcha that file_get_contents failed to connect.

So the solution is to use Curl to do that job.

Here is the fixed file, excuse my mess i had not cleaned up my code yet... but recaptcha now works.

this file goes in the includes dir... you can clean up the file if you like again sorry about that.

Moving task to another project seems to require fields updated to target project options. This operation is not possible on the task category field and possibly others. Attempting to submit changes gives error:

“Oh, there are some incompatible properties set that must be resolved before moving this task to a different project.”

However, you cannot select a new value (from the target list) for the properties in question.

If a task creator requested closure, and someone (developer) closes the task explicitly, the PM request cannot be later ‘accepted’ and the PM request remains in the queue.

Workaround - Deny request and queue item is removed OK.

It looks like the PM request button invoked details.close which returns early if task is already closed.

From the ‘Task Statuses’ menu, when in the global project, the ‘delete’ cases are grayed out, preventing me from deleting them.

This is a problem for me because I would like to only have project specific statuses and I would like to name one of those statuses ‘Assigned’.

For now, I got around it renaming the system wide ‘Assigned’ status.

Add a system where people can donate towards a specific task. For example, I want to donate $10 if someone implements gravatars. The money sits in a pool, and then when someone claims that task and it is marked as completed by the admin, they get the bounty (less some commission that goes towards the project).

Maybe this is not an issue, but my problem is: upload images approximately 3000 px x 2000 px and this image appears larger than the monitor

Save public files inside public or public_html directories, and non-public files outside of those directories;

This goes onto another question/point - why are you deleting files from the vendor directory? It happens during composer install, and again after installation? Those files will just get put back if the user ever runs composer install again...

When entering the wrong SMTP information and then adding a user through Multiple New Users page, the error message is bad. It just says 'this should never happen'. Instead, we need to detect that it is an SMTP authentication error and report that issue to the user more clearly.

We need to have a better way to do user rights, group rights and manage users.

Here is what I am thinking, global administration can go to a ACL tab. Click on it and you have a simple way to add a new user / group. Two tabs on top are User Rights and Group Rights. These are global so each project will inherit the global setting for user / group.

Clicking on User Rights tab will lists users with a table to grant user rights. Specific to that user, it would be the same for group rights tab.

You can also search by a user name. This will make things faster to find that specific user.

I often used color identifiers for my Task Statuses in my old bug tracking solution, and it helped me prioritize things, like confirming unconfirmed bugs. The only thing that currently has colors, is the severity- I’d like a possibility to have (customizable) colors for Task Statuses too.

E.g. actual version, dueVersion, ...

The feature still exists but it is turned off until finished in a secure way. The possibility of sub and parent tasks requires many checks.

Since Update to Flyspray 1.0 Beta2 all users can see every task in every project.

The rights were set up correctly in Flyspray 1.0 Alpha and worked just fine.

If I write a task and press the back button in the brower and go forward again, my expection is that the
text I wrote is still existing, even if I didn't save it.

It is frustrating losing a well thought issue editing and having it to rewrite.

It would be great if the Admin Toolbox had an attachments section with an on/off switch, a max size setting, and it would print out all the reasons why it can’t set it to your desired value.

This would help in situations like  FS#2458 , it would be more clear if there is a setting to turn on/off attachments instead of turning them on and off by setting the rights if the attachments folder.

This way if the attachments setting is On, the GUI could also print an error “Attachments folder must be writable” when it detects that the writable attribute does not match the desired setting.
