I think this can be done a bit better.

Ideas:

  • show as it is now, but on css :hover show all persons
  • use initials like "CR FS JM" for Cristian R., Florian S., Jordan M. and on css :hover show a list with the full names, this can make the column width a bit smaller.
  • use tiny avatar icons in a row like you can see here https://github.com/Flyspray/flyspray/blob/master/header.php for example, and showing the names on css :hover.

We now have the avatar icon as helper, but for quick verification it would be easier to see also the role of the user in the current project to identify the right user account.

Currently the appearence of the task list table is configured system wide for all project view and project wide for project task list views.

Even more fancy and for power users would be if the user can set his own project column list view preferences for projects.

While the project columns for the task list are configured by "visible_columns"
we could use the project wide "visible_fields" as allowed columns the user may configure as his personal preference. If the user doesn't configure his own list, the project default list is used. The user should have the option to reset to project default. (e.g. empty personal "visible_fields" )

In this case the description for setting "visible_fields" on the project management configuration page must be adapted too.

Probably a new table required something like:

The Flyspray Manual ( http://www.flyspray.org/manual/ ) does not even hint of it, and as long as i am not logged in there's no indication anywhere in the interface that i would eventually get to do it after i manage to log-in.

In fact, i've come here to learn how to use your software, considering the fact that the site where it was deployed did not provide much help. And after i logged in into that site ( http://www.uzbl.org/bugs/ ) i still don't see any "add new task" option. That's IMO a discover-ability fail, and it originates in your own design: disabled features should not be hidden, lest users think you didn't bother to code such features. Also, you say i shouldn't report bugs against versions earlier than 0.9.9.7, but how do i know which version of Flyspray are they using?

We live in a world now, where the view port ranges from 320 pixel width mobile screens up to 4k+ wide tv screens, the amount of columns is configurable from minimal to all available fields of a task. We currently let the browser automatic decide how wide he renders each column depending on table content and available window size.

Well, that ellipsis problem can be handled at different levels:

  • motivate the task creators to use short task summary if possible (e.g. show a hint/tooltip when typing the summary gets over a limit, in our case the hardcoded limit is 55. ). Short task topic/summaries are easier to read/scan for the users.
  • replace the hard ellipsis by a pure css solution, that adapts to users browserwindow size/space in in the columns for summary
  • drop the ellipsis thing complete, task summary always shown full length, table rows adapt in height automatically.

Bugs

  • Small javascript issue: When checkbox of one users row clicked, it doesn’t select the checkbox because the row click event handler doubles the click (check and uncheck, tested with firefox41). Clicking in the row (not on the name) selects the checkbox. fixed
  • browser back button after delete of a user not working as expected. (fix it by redirect 303 , see modify.inc.php how it done for other form submits)

Missing features

  • no sorting possible of the table (like tasklist)
  • no paging (like on tasklist) OK, probably not needed: ~2000 user registrations on bugs.flyspray.org and no problem rendering the table in browser.
  • no filtering of user list possible
  • no helpful information for admins like registration date and last time of login of users (last login time requires a new field in flyspray_users) implemented in Flyspray 1.0-rc7
  • no summary about users like how many exists or how many are currently online (requires storing sessions in a db session (e.g. flyspray_session) table instead php default session directory) on the install. Or a statistic graph of activity or peaks of new registrations over time.
  • maybe show user profile image too in the list.
  • choosable user field columns - partially implemented since 1.0-rc7 by selecting groups of user fields and calculated user fields: user stats, user settings

In the comments list of a given task, is it possible that the comments appear from the newest one to the oldest ones, and not as it is now, with the new ones coming at the end of the list? This is because I deal with long comments list for a given task, and it is becoming difficult to reach the last one, that is, the newest comment, because the order in the comments is on the top, the older ones. Quick anwsers:

  1. Users can use ‘End’-key and ‘Pos1’-key on their keyboard to scroll to bottom and top of page. (lame anwser I know)
  2. Another quick anwser is to just reverse the comments array in the appropriate template themes/CleanFS/templates/details.tabs.comments.tpl :

But the real problem I think is that the details page (and others too..) is not optimized for todays wide screens (landscape views). Laptops have FullHD or higher but the Flyspray users still have to scroll to get an overview of a task.

And for narrows views too (mobile phones, tablet portrait view)

The attached screenshot shows moving the task details tabs beside their task description if the display width is over 1200 css pixel. (and the reversed comments too ;-) ). Done with pure css media query:

(Has still some problems with current 1.0-rc1 when the project selector wraps. Also tab labels wrap if not enough width available and tab content do not adapt.)

When viewing a project via the tasklist, there are a series of checkboxes available. If a user in a group with “modify own tasks” checks a box on a ticket - no matter who actually owns it - they are given a list of options to change it with.

This should not happen. The checkboxes should only be available from the tasklist if the user can actually edit the tickets they’d be next to.

The register spam by probably bots in 2016 is annoying.

I ticked the setting, that an admin must accept a new registration. It helps to reduce spam task, but now admin must decide if the registrations are ok or just spam bots.

Beside the need of antispam-plugins, the management of users can be improved:

  • column sorting of user list, similiar to the tasklist
  • filtering user list, similiar to the tasklist
  • pagination of user list (25,50,100,200,all?)
  • more columns like ‘last login’, ‘last activity/tasks/comments created/votes/edit’ that may help to decide what status or settings a user should have in future.
  • show time zone setting and language setting of users implemented in userlist now
  • mass accept/deny of a list of user registrations waiting for admin approval.

In some parts of the world (primarily the US), the date is viewed as Month/Day/Year. However, all options in the current rc4 build are listed as Day/Month/Year aside from one, which goes ShortWrittenMonth/Day#/Year#.

This is poor from a customer perspective, and can be highly confusing. I can change the date globally to a correct format in the database, but this doesn’t help much as every user can select their own date which has all incorrect formats.

It would be great if the Admin Toolbox had an attachments section with an on/off switch, a max size setting, and it would print out all the reasons why it can’t set it to your desired value.

This would help in situations like  FS#2458 , it would be more clear if there is a setting to turn on/off attachments instead of turning them on and off by setting the rights if the attachments folder.

This way if the attachments setting is On, the GUI could also print an error “Attachments folder must be writable” when it detects that the writable attribute does not match the desired setting.

The issue with many servers now and the reason that recaptcha does not work is because it requires servers to enable allow_url_fopen which is a huge security risk. That is why you get the warning message when you try to run recaptcha that file_get_contents failed to connect.

So the solution is to use Curl to do that job.

Here is the fixed file, excuse my mess i had not cleaned up my code yet... but recaptcha now works.

this file goes in the includes dir... you can clean up the file if you like again sorry about that.

We keep the votes, because a task can be reopened everytime and then the old voters and votes should be visible again. In this case the amount of votes on active task could be a bit greater than allowed, but thats no real problem.
The calculation of done votes and available votes based only on open task and project voting limit.

For example on uservoice.com you have 10 voting points. So you as user has to decide where your priorities are to put your votes.

So all users have more or less the same power to vote for tasks.

I vote for removing $fs->prefs['page_title'] from title-tag.

Explanation:

When the user has many open flyspray tabs, he cannot distinguish them at the first look, because the tab header is filled with redundant information of the systemwide 'page_title' name.

But the browsers also show the favicon.ico of the website (BTW: we need a better one, with some color - and the big webapp icons too for iPhone & co..)
So the user has indication that the tab is a flyspray tab and the page_title text is redundant and wasted space there.

Also search engines could better represent search results if they group together the results from one website. (google shows most relevant pages together if google is sure the whole website is the best search result for the search query (ranked #1)

Needs to be considered:

  • How to handle votes of private tasks?
  • Show votes of closed tasks too? (votes on closed tasks should don’t count for max votes per project)
  • When personal “max votes per project” (open tasks) is active, this is of more value.

This is at the moment just a bit brainstorming ..:

Let the project administrator define what source code languages are used/popular in a software project and dependend of that setting prefer/promote that languages at the dokuwiki editor buttonbar.

This requires probably an additional database field in the flyspay_projects table (if just used for dokuwiki that should be ok)

If thinking further like Filter me all software projects that may ontain CSS code on the projects overview, a m:n-table setup is thinkable. But thats maybe overengineering..
Or can we use the existing tag-feature for that and just ‘tag’ projects with tags?

If someone with ‘edit comment’-permission wants to edit a comment, the edit comment form is shown on an extra page.

This is not optimal, because the editor cannot see task details or the other comments while modifying the comment.

Possible Solutions

  • with javascript is enabled: Stay on the ‘task detail’-page, just the comment changes from a ‘view’ layout to ‘edit’ layout, similiar to the quickedit-feature (like in FS1.0).
  • when javascript is disabled: The ‘edit comment’-page shows task details (check permissions) and other comments too, but maybe a bit narrow, so ‘visible focus’ is on editing the comment.

The user preferences and the add new user screens both allow you to set the timezone offset of the user, however, we are only provided with whole hour offsets from GMT. This makes it impossible to select our timezone here in India, which is GMT+5:30 - IST(Indian Standard Time - Asia/Kolkata as per TZ Zoneinfo). In addition, there are also timezones in the GMT+x:45, which wouild also require to be handled. Note, this is totally independent of DST Changes, since some of the countries use DST(Like in Australia) and others do not(Like India).

Steps done to create the problem:
Set up google as an oauth provider.
Have a user click “Sign in with Google” in the login box.
User connects their account with Flyspray.
Google redirects the user back to Flyspray
The return screen (on flyspray) asks for a username.

Expected behavior:
No warning about duplicate username should be shown on initial page load since no username was entered yet

Experienced behavior:
A warning about the username being already taken is shown.

It appears there is no logic for showing or hiding that warning in register.oauth.tpl

(It would be great if flyspray was able to just use the email as a username to make the UX even better/simpler.)

So when in editing a task for instance, the n (next task) and p (previous task) shortcuts are not available for a good reason. Listing them there with same priority as other keys then is not helpful.

The simpliest solution is probably putting some if-statements depending on the $do variable into CleanFS/templates/shortcuts.tpl ..

When a user is deleted from Flyspray, their opened tasks, closed task and task comments are then shown as Anonymous Submitter, the same way as anonymous reporters (not really anonymous, just that user does not have login account, but usually their email address is stored within that task data).

Currently just the entry from users table are deleted when a user is deleted. Their internal user_id integer is still within tasks and comments fields, and maybe some other tables too. So there is not a ON DELETE SET NULL rule or something like that applied. As it is just an autoincremented number by the system, this is not personal data imho and should be no problem for GDPR, but gives Flyspray the ability to distinguish between anon reporters and deleted users. Well, we could also look if there is an email address within task table entry for notification of anonymous reporter, but there are also tasks possible that have no user_id nor an email address.

It might by useful to present that information differently like deleted user or showing the info differently like icon + title-tooltip with explanation.

Also interesting what happens with mentions of a deleted username in a comment or task description. (see FS#2322)

The user isn’t in database, but deleting that now gone user should not modify tasks or comment where that username was mentioned I think.
But what if another user registers under that now gone username? In that case that new user would inherit that mentions. Probably we can ignore that edge case as there will be not much things will happen with an old mention in old tasks/comments.

Must the admin setup his own jabber/xmpp server or are there recommended servers?

I registered with psi+ instant messager as peterdd@ubuntu-jabber.de at ubuntu-jabber.de for testing
and configured it here in my account too, but got no jabber messages.

Email notifications works and I set up both sending.
